The 3 day K2K Hike
The three night, three day, 40km Kaipara2Kaipara walk takes visitors on a journey through heartland New Zealand experiencing some unique flora and fauna that is special to the area.
Walkers spend the night before the start of their journey relaxing and preparing at the Mataia homestead in rural Glorit. Vehicles can be safely parked at the Homestead for the duration of the walk. A full track briefing will be given on this night and walkers will be given full track information contained in a Track Passport which is also the ticket which allows you to walk through private land over which the K2K passes.
On day one of the walk, guests are picked up from Mataia Homestead at 8:30am and transported approximately 30 minutes inland to the start of the track at Kaipara Flats.
A 13.5 kilometre walk up the Kaipara Hills on day one finishes at the Dill Farm Bach. Day two winds up the Mt Auckland reserve and ends at the third nights accommodation at The Farm Cottage. The third day of the walk heads out to the Kaipara Harbour before finishing up back at the Mataia Homestead where walkers can return to their vehicles and depart at their leisure.
The K2K Hike requires a good level of fitness. It is not a walk in the park but very well worth the effort! Each day is between 12km and 16km. There are a number of fairly steep climbs and descents which become slippery underfoot in wet weather. The ground can be rough and uneven in places along the track.
Tramping boots/specialist tramping shoes are essential and walking/hiking sticks are recommended.
